Hello
George Christou CEng MICE CDCDP
Managing Director and Founder
George is a highly skilled Chartered Civil Engineer who draws on a wealth of technical experience gained in the engineering industry over the past 26 years which spans civil and structural consultancy, forensic technical expert, client side management and main contractor pre construction services. This breadth of experience sets him apart from others in his field. He has been involved throughout the project lifecycle of projects including feasibility, planning, design and build on various diverse and complex civil engineering projects throughout Europe and the UK.
My Story
George’s engineering career began following the completion of his BEng (Hons) in Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Bath. As part of his thin-sandwich course, he spent six months in Africa working on oil pipelines and civil infrastructure projects, an experience that ignited his passion for the built environment.
He commenced his professional career with AKT, a leading structural engineering consultancy, where he achieved Chartered Civil Engineer status and progressed to Associate. During his ten-year tenure, George contributed to a range of high-profile projects, including the Tottenham Court Road Station ticket hall and several complex lightweight fabric structures in Abu Dhabi.
George subsequently joined Network Rail in a senior Asset Protection role, overseeing technical approvals and managing the engineering aspects of asset protection agreements for major infrastructure schemes such as Battersea Power Station, Crossrail (Plumstead Portal and Farringdon Station), and the Museum of London relocation within the Smithfield tunnels.
Following five years at Network Rail, George moved to Kier Plc, where he led the in-house design team on major projects including HS2 and the Network Rail Electrification Framework. Under his leadership, the design team evolved into a successful multi-disciplinary design house, increasing turnover fivefold.
In April 2022, George was appointed Technical Director for a main contractor and was later promoted to Group Technical Director, responsible for the technical and quality functions across the UK and Europe. His remit included leadership of data centre CSA design and build projects, major UK infrastructure programmes, and the management and review of forensic civil and structural engineering reports. During this period, he also achieved Certified Data Centre Design Professional (CDCDP®) accreditation.
Building on this extensive experience, George has now established his own consultancy, AssembleUK, which he has developed over several years to provide high-quality technical and strategic engineering services such as Network Rail CEM, data centre feasibility and specialised surveys.
George lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and two children. Outside of work, he has a keen interest in music, is an accomplished bouzouki player, and enjoys a variety of sports, particularly squash.
